Cattle thieves and confusion in 1882

When the sheriff got in a gunfight with a cattle thief near Grand Junction in 1882, it created substantial misinformation. Initial stories said the sheriff and a deputy were killed, but it was actually the leader of the cattle-rustling gang who met his end in late April, 1882.
