The Hole in the Rock expedition of 1879 and 1880 has long fascinated me, especially since the LDS pioneers could have chosen an easier route. My wife shot this video of Hole in the Rock as it appears today.
We traveled part of their route last September, and I wrote the column linked below.
This map shows the three potential routes. They chose the middle one because it is the shortest.
