Antoine Leroux was a friend of Kit Carson and other famous mountain men and guides.
He may have even surpassed them when it came to guiding important expeditions in the West, including through western Colorado.
The drawing here is from the 1853 railroad survey expedition of Captain John Gunnison, which Leroux led through Colorado.
