In November of 1972, the U.S. Army, working in conjunction with other agencies, detonated one million pounds of TNT

in an isolated spot in Western Colorado to simulate a small nuclear explosion. This photo show the blocks of TNT just prior to detonation. The photo on the home page shows a man standing next to 1,000 pounds of TNT. My column is linked below.
