Cisco, Utah was established in the 1880s as one of the many water stops for the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railway.

By the early years of the 20th century, it had become one of the major sheep shearing and sheep shipping locations in the region. This photo shows a shearing plant near Bonanza, Utah during the same time. Cisco's plant was similar, but larger.
