1915 freeze forced fruit re-examination

Springtime freezes are the bane of the fruit industry in Western Colorado. A late frost in May of 1915 caused people in the Grand Valley to reconsider their dependence on the fruit industry. One recommendation was greater use of smudge pots, such as those shown below in an early 20th century postcard. My latest history column is here.
