Colorado's first governor was tenacious

John Routt was Colorado's last territorial governor and the first governor elected when Colorado became a state.


He was also elected a second time more than a decade later. He was a decorated Civil War veteran, a friend of Ulysses S. Grant, a mine owner and a proponent of women's right to vote. Read more in my Daily Sentinel History column linked below.
