Spaniards descend on Utah Lake

The 1776 Spanish expedition led by Fathers Dominguez and Escalante didn't achieve its primary goal of finding a land route from New Mexico to California, but it did find success in the Utah Lake area in September, making Catholic converts and finding a place suitable for Spanish settlement.
