I've been interested in writing a column about W.P. Ela for several years, but things always came up that prevented it. I was finally able to do so this week, with the critical assistance of Shirley and Tom Ela.
This photo, provided by the Ela family, shows a group of people at a rock overlook on Ela's 2V ranch, probably about 1890. W.P. Ela is the one towering above the others. His wife, Lucy Drake Ela, is the woman on the far right. The La Sal Mountains in Utah are barely visible in the background.
